Coach Development & Team Mentoring

What’s up everyone, lets talk for a few…

With the changes that have been made recently, Brad and I are trying to make decisions that’ll better the facility and improve the team for the future. One of the decisions that we agree on is to bring in new coaches that are experienced, trustworthy, genuine, love CrossFit, and sincerely want to be a part of our team.

Recently I took a CrossFit class in San Francisco and I extended an opportunity to a CrossFit coach. She will be visiting us on Monday, August 4 at 12pm. Her focus is to meet many of you, shake hands with you, workout with you and see if she can picture herself as part of the One World family (especially if it means leaving her current situation, to come build a home with us).

Sunday, August 3 I’ll be driving out to Lake Tahoe area, to visit another CrossFit Box. I’m going there to meet a coach that is making a move back to the bay area soon and I’d like to get a better feel of her coaching skills.
(I am pulling out of my Sunday competition because this is more important)

Tuesday, August 5 will be the first day of our in-house Coach Development Program. The participants of this program will meet every Tuesday and Thursday at 8pm (while the gym is empty). The Coach Development Program will introduce the methodology, terminology, and movements foundational to CrossFit. The program will include lectures/guest speakers, movement “break out” sessions for hands-on practice, and a group workout.

Two guest speakers for this week have competed in both, NorCal Regionals and the CrossFit Games, with one taking 7th place in the Master’s Division in 2014. You will be given honest and respectable insight on what they expect from a coach, how they became successful coaches/athletes and how to best continue your quest for coaching knowledge. You will also have to coach them on specific movements.

The current participants of the in-house Coach Development Program are:

Huong Nguyen-Yap
Melissa Maddon
Christopher McClain
Harvey Roxas
Herbie Roxas

Jessielyn Lacap
Lyn C Coronado
Anne Dunne
Myles McDonell
